The Alabama Pastel Society was founded in October 2000. The goal is to increase the public awareness and acceptance of pastels as a serious painting medium through workshops, exhibitions, slides demonstrations and demos. Workshops will feature well-known professional artists and instructors.

 

The Alabama Pastel Society is a non-profit organization.

 

Our goals are:

 

To set high artistic standards in pastels and encourage its use.

 

To promote workshops, demonstrations and education in use of pastels.

 

To provide for enrichment and growth for artists regardless of artistic ability.

 

To encourage young talent with critiques and classes.

 

To educate the public on the renaissance of pastel and educate the public regarding the wonderful versatility and permanence and beautiful luminous quality.

 

To hold a biennial membership show on odd number years.

 

To hold and promote a biennial, national, juried, competition with qualified jurors and judges on even number years.
